Back in the old days I used to carefully trim my articles and photos out of the newspaper and glue them into a “string book”. When I applied for jobs, those spiral notebooks filled with yellowing newsprint served as my writing portfolio.
Thank goodness technology has streamlined this writer essential. And, there’s no more glue fumes!
So, do you have an online writing portfolio?
Although I’ve been writing online full time for the past five years (and as a side project since 1998!) , I never took the time to create one. I know. I know. Even after I started Web Writing Advice, I didn’t get it done. I’ve been searching for a great WordPress plugin to showcase my recently published pieces, but nothing seems to work right.
Then I got an email.
One of the content marketing companies that I write for created a free, public online portfolio for me. The best part? I can feature any of my web writing on the page!
There are many, many free websites out there offering profile pages. But if you want my opinion, check out the free portfolio from Skyword. Why? Because you’ll also get your name thrown into their pool of writers and might land a great online writing gig.
I’ve been contracting writing work with them since 2011 and can vouch for their attentiveness to writers and variety of writing opportunities. (And no, they didn’t pay me to say that!)
Once you create a cool online presence, please share the link in the comments below. I’d love to see your page!
